Our History

From 1978 to 1981:
On 27th October 1978, four National Trade Associations handling polyurethane met for the first time in Stuttgart, Germany. The four founding associations were BRUFMA, United Kingdom, IVPU, Germany, NVPU, the Netherlands, and GIPCEL, France (now SNPA). Regular and informal contacts followed this first meeting, and resulted in active cooperation and common achievements in technical issues.

February 5th, 1981: foundation of BING
After a few years of friendly cooperation, the four founding associations decided to formalise their activities. This was achieved on February 5th, 1981, when BING was officially established during a Members meeting in Paris.

1981-2003: Expansion of BING
Several other National Trade Associations joined the early BING:
FECHIPLAST (now FEBELPLAST), Belgium, in 1983
FIPIF, Finland, in 1986
ANPE, Italy, in 1990

Activities developed quickly, particularly in the technical area, and resulted in a large number of common projects followed by technical publications.
Around 2001, as BING was growing bigger and bigger, the industry started thinking about a major change.

2003 onwards: a major step forward
Considering the large opportunities at hand, the industry decided to strengthen its activities. This decision resulted in several major changes, such as the direct involvement of raw material suppliers within BING, and the move of the offices from Stuttgart, Germany, to Brussels, Belgium to be closer to the EU decision-making process.

In early 2004, the following raw materials suppliers joined BING as direct members: Bayer, Dow, Elastogran, Huntsman, INVISTA, Oxid, Stepan, Synthesia Espagnola, GE, Goldschmidt, Honeywell, Air Products, Mondi Belcoat, Hennecke, Walki Wisa

This move was very well perceived by the industry, and new Members are joining:
IPUR, National Trade Association in Spain, joined in 2005.
Albemarle and Supresta joined in 2005 as well in the raw material suppliers category.

With ten new European countries, BING looks to continually expand its membership and profile, while improving European coverage, communications and expanding its activities.

The BING name
Did you know that:

The name BING was created in 1981 when four national trade associations took the first steps in establishing this organisation:
BRUFMA of the UK, IVPU of Germany, NVPU of the Netherlands, and GIPCEL of France (now SNPA). By taking the first letter of each association, the word BING was formed, and has lasted since then.
