Industry drivers

Reduction of CO2 emissions is generally accepted as the best approach to combat Global Warming.

Several studies have shown that insulation reveals the greatest potential savings of CO2 (carbon dioxide) compared to other building efficiency measures.

Better insulation in buildings allows to meet some of the key challenges the world is facing:

  • energy consumption: buildings account for 40% of the energy used in OECD countries
  • greenhouse gas effects: energy consumption is a major contributor to the increase in greenhouse gases released in the atmosphere
  • the Kyoto protocol, ratified in 2005, must be implemented; a recent study from the European Environment Agency shows that in the present state, the Kyoto targets will not be achieved on time in Europe

Better insulation will be a significant contributor towards the implementation of the Kyoto protocol and will also bring additional benefits:

  • energy savings, resulting in lower energy bills both for the individuals and for the countries. This will help to improve competitiveness of Europe as a whole
  • protection of the environment: more stringent insulation regulations can cut European CO2 emissions by 5% (60% of present European Kyoto target)
  • positive impact on job creation
  • boost of the European economy

Why is polyurethane insulation so special?
Polyurethane, which covers both PUR and PIR, is the most efficient, high performance insulation material available, enabling effective insulation with minimal occupation of space.

PUR/PIR insulation is sustainable, and available for a wide spectrum of applications in new built, while also extremely suitable for retrofitting.
